The Opportunity

A well-established independent accountancy practice in Congleton is looking to recruit an experienced Accountant to join its team.

The firm has been established for nearly 70 years and has built a strong reputation for providing high-quality advice to businesses and individuals across the region.

They’re open-minded on qualification level. You could be ACA/ACCA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience – what matters most is having strong accountancy practice experience and the confidence to take responsibility for your own work and client relationships.

This is a particularly good opportunity for someone who enjoys the traditional breadth of general practice, including both accounts preparation and audit.

The Role

You’ll work with a varied portfolio of clients and take responsibility for assignments from initial planning through to completion.

Your role will include:

  • Preparing statutory accounts for a range of businesses
  • Working with limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
  • Taking responsibility for audit assignments
  • Supporting audits from planning through to completion
  • Preparing working papers and ensuring files are completed to a high professional standard
  • Managing your own assignments and deadlines
  • Working directly with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
  • Building strong, long-term client relationships
  • Working independently while collaborating with the wider team
  • Supporting Managers and Partners with more complex client work

It’s a broad position where you’ll have the opportunity to maintain your experience across both accounts and audit rather than becoming too specialised.

The Candidate

The firm is flexible around qualifications and will consider candidates who are:

  • ACA or ACCA qualified
  • ACA/ACCA part-qualified
  • Qualified by experience (QBE)

More importantly, you’ll need:

  • Previous experience within a UK accountancy practice
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts
  • Previous audit experience
  • The ability to confidently take responsibility for your own assignments
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good organisation and time-management skills
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients
  • An approachable and professional communication style
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team

What’s On Offer

  • Opportunity to join a long-established independent practice
  • Varied exposure across accounts and audit
  • Broad and interesting client portfolio
  • High level of client contact
  • Supportive and experienced team
  • Long-term career stability
  • Opportunity to take genuine ownership of your work and client relationships
