The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a growing and ambitious accountancy practice that is investing heavily in the quality, leadership and future direction of its Audit team.

The firm is seeking an experienced Audit Senior Manager to take ownership of a significant audit portfolio while playing a key role in maintaining audit quality, developing future leaders and supporting the strategic growth of the department.

This is a genuine leadership position rather than simply a larger client portfolio. The successful individual will sit between Director-level leadership and the wider management team, helping drive standards, performance and technical excellence across the audit function.

The Role

Reporting directly into senior audit leadership, you will take responsibility for a substantial portfolio of audit clients, including larger groups, complex assignments and higher-risk engagements.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a substantial audit portfolio
  • Reviewing and challenging audit planning, risk assessment and execution
  • Reviewing complex audit assignments prior to Director review
  • Supporting teams on technical accounting and audit matters
  • Acting as a key escalation point for audit quality and compliance issues
  • Supporting regulatory reviews and quality inspections
  • Driving audit quality and compliance standards across the department
  • Managing workflow, resource planning and departmental efficiency
  • Supporting fee management and portfolio profitability
  • Building strong relationships with senior client stakeholders
  • Mentoring and developing Audit Managers and Assistant Managers
  • Supporting succession planning and leadership development initiatives
  • Delivering internal technical training and development programmes

This role offers a blend of technical leadership, people management, commercial responsibility and strategic involvement.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • ACA or ACCA qualification
  • At least 5 years post-qualified experience
  • Previous experience operating at Audit Manager or Senior Manager level
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK audit and accounting standards
  • Experience managing complex audits, group structures and consolidations
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial awareness and operational management experience
  • A proactive approach to audit quality and continuous improvement

What’s On Offer

  • £70,000 – £90,000 basic salary
  • Performance-related bonus
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
  • Significant leadership responsibility
  • Exposure to complex and varied audit assignments
  • Strong progression opportunities
  • Ongoing technical and leadership development
  • High levels of autonomy and influence
  • Supportive and collaborative culture
